The “Amazon Safety Recall” Text Scam Hitting Austin Phones Right Now
Hi, it’s Brandon and Tatianna from Phone Safety Coach. This week we’ve had six different Austin seniors forward us almost the exact same text:

“Amazon Safety Recall: We are contacting you because the product you purchased has been recalled due to quality and safety concerns. We urge you to stop using the product immediately and contact us for a full refund… link: shorturl.at/******… Order ID: 116-6412986-2738748…”
If you or someone you love just got this — stop, breathe, and read this.
It is 100% a scam, and it’s spreading fast across Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, and Georgetown.

The 5 Dead-Giveaway Red Flags
1. It came from a weird phone number (often +90 Turkey, +44 UK, or a random 10-digit)
Amazon only texts from the official short code 262-966 (AMZN) in the U.S.
2. They never say what the “product” is
Real recalls name the exact item (e.g., “Contigo Kids Water Bottle”).
3. That link is fake
shorturl.at, bit.ly, tinyurl, etc. are favorite hiding spots for scammers. Clicking takes you to a fake Amazon login page that steals your password and credit card.
4. The order number is nonsense
Real Amazon orders are three groups of 7 digits: XXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX.
5. Urgency + fear = classic scam trick
“Stop using immediately” is designed to make you panic and click before thinking.
What to Do Right Now (30 seconds)
• Do NOT click the link or reply
• Block the number
• Forward the text to 7726 (it spells SPAM — helps carriers block it)
• Log in to Amazon the normal way (type amazon.com yourself) — you’ll see zero recall messages
Real Story from This Week
One of our Austin clients almost fell for it. She clicked the link, typed her password, and the scammer instantly ordered $1,200 in gift cards on her account. We caught it in time during an Emergency Scam Response session (S1) and got everything locked down — but it was close.
Don’t let it be you or your parent.
Still Worried?
Text the word BOOK to us right now at (512) 566-6565
We’ll call you back today and do a full phone sweep — no charge for the first 10 minutes.
Founding clients get 15% off any session booked by January 23.
You’re smarter than the scammers — and we’ve got your back.
Stay safe, Austin.
